Who it is for

Talkbox is for adults. It is not for children under 13.

What we collect

When you hold to talk, Talkbox records a short clip of your voice. We send that clip to turn it into text so the partner can answer. That is the only use of the recording.

If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive your name and email so we can keep your account. A signed-in person can save a lesson recipe: language, partner, and goals. A recipe is not a recording and not a conversation.

To join a room, you enter a code and pick a display word so the teacher can tell seats apart. That word stays in this browser tab. It is not sent to us to keep. It is erased when the room ends.

A teacher watching a room sees the display words and whether each seat is speaking or waiting. A teacher does not see what anyone said. There is no transcript page, no recording to replay, and no report to download.

How we use a hold

We send the clip to a speech-to-text provider, get the words, and send those words to a language-model provider so the partner can reply. We do not send the recording to that model.

Talkbox deletes the recording as soon as the text lands. We do not keep it for playback. We do not keep it to improve Talkbox. We do not use it to recognize a voice or identify a person. We do not build a profile from it. We do not sell it, post it, or use it for ads.

The partner's reply is read aloud in a synthetic voice. That voice reads the partner's own words. It is never a copy of your voice. If you tap a word to hear it, we send that single word to be read aloud, and nothing else.

Who we send it to

Speech to text. ElevenLabs (Scribe) turns the clip into text. If Scribe cannot, AssemblyAI does. We delete our copy as soon as we have the words. We ask AssemblyAI to delete its transcript. We cannot promise ElevenLabs does not keep a log of that call.

Conversation. A language-model provider receives the text of the turn, not the audio. We ask them not to train on it. Some still keep a copy for a short time for safety, up to about 30 days. Talkbox does not keep those words on our servers.

Reading aloud. A speech synthesis provider reads the partner's reply, and reads a single word when you tap one.

A hosting company serves this site. Our servers see ordinary technical records, such as an IP address, so Talkbox can respond to the right browser and stay available. We do not use those records to advertise.

We do not use advertising networks. We do not sell your information.

This browser

We do not use advertising cookies. The United States does not require a cookie banner for this.

When sign-in is on, a session cookie keeps you signed in. That is how login works, not ads.

This browser also remembers your app language, lesson language, and last Region and Level. Those sit in this browser only. They are not a tracking cookie.

In a room, the display word stays in this tab and is erased when the room ends.

How long we keep it

Recording. Deleted on our side as soon as the text lands.

Words of the sitting. On this device for this sitting, then gone. Not stored on Talkbox servers. A provider may still hold a safety copy for a short time, as above.

Account and saved lesson recipes. Until you delete the account.

If you want something deleted

Write to hello@talkbox.chat. Tell us the account email, or the room code and display word. Because we delete the recording immediately and keep no server-side transcript, there is usually nothing left of a sitting for us to show you. We will say so plainly.

If we change this page, we will change the date at the top.

Who can use it

You must be 18 or older. Talkbox is not for children under 13.

Your voice

When you hold to talk, you are recording yourself so Talkbox can turn that clip into text. How we handle that is in Privacy.

The partner

The practice partner is not a person. It can be wrong. It is not advice, a grade, or a translator you should rely on for anything that matters.

How you use it

Use Talkbox for language practice. Do not use it to harm people, to break the law, or to try to get around these terms.

As is

Talkbox is provided as is. We do not promise it will always work, or that a sitting will be saved. Lessons you save are recipes, not recordings.
